Day 2 Mosquito Lake State Park to Ashtabula, Ohio. on the Western Reserve Greenway Trail -46.3 miles. elevation gain 711'

The weather on day 2 was mixed with quite a few threatening thunderstorms.  We managed to stay dry by the use of some strategic stops.  One rain cell caught up to us as we approached the town of Orwell.  Fortunately, there was an Amish-owned store and restaurant just about 1/4 mile from the trailhead.  The little store was full of sewing notions and fabric for making Amish clothing, hats of every size for the boys and men, and bonnets for the women.  There were tools and natural health remedies, and various and sundry items.  In the back of the shop were some closeout grocery items with expired dates.  We picked up a few things which will make one dinner and several lunches and spent exactly $2.45!  We also had a very delicious meal while waiting for the shower to pass.

Greenway Trail was alive with so many birds.  We saw a rainbow today - scarlet tanangers, goldfinches, orioles, indigo buntings and bluebirds among others.
Our target stop for the night was a trail-side campground, but it was flooded so we pushed on to Ashtabula and found a little hotel which was clean and comfortable.  We took a taxi to town for dinner and ate overlooking the very hard-working harbor and the coal arch.

This is what $2.45 looks like!

The coal arch moves coal from the railcars to the freighters in the harbor
